WrestleMania 42 is fast approaching. April has hosted more than half of its past events. The month is rich in history and packed with notable matches.

Join us as we dive into a WrestleMania-themed look at memorable matches to have occurred in April.

WrestleMania VI - Apr. 1, 1990 - Ultimate Warrior vs. Hulk Hogan

Ultimate Warrior vs. Hulk Hogan was the first time a WrestleMania main event featured multiple championships up for grabs. Hogan put the WWE Championship on the line and Warrior defended the Intercontinental Championship. This match remains the only WrestleMania main event to feature the Intercontinental Championship.

Warrior ended Hogan's near yearlong championship reign to capture his first WWE title. This bout was the first WrestleMania main event loss of Hogan's career, having entered the match with a 4-0 record as the headliner.

WrestleMania 2000 - Apr. 2, 2000 - Edge & Christian vs. Dudley Boyz vs. Hardy Boyz

This triangle ladder match for the World Tag Team Championship played a key role in shaping the modern era of pro wrestling. Though not the first tag team ladder match in WWE history, it was the first to include three teams. The action was fierce and full of innovation.

The bout also helped shape one of the most iconic tag team rivalries in WWE history among the three teams involved. Later that year at SummerSlam, they raised the stakes by competing in the first-ever TLC (tables, ladders and chairs) match, before meeting again at the next year's WrestleMania.

WrestleMania X-Seven - Apr. 1, 2001 - Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. The Rock

Between 1999 and 2003, Austin and The Rock developed a legendary rivalry with three different WrestleMania chapters. This was their second such battle and led to a major WrestleMania moment.

As their acclaimed bout was nearing its conclusion, Austin accepted help from one of his fiercest rivals, Mr. McMahon. Together they obliterated The Rock and ensured Austin won his fifth WWE championship.

In doing so, Austin -- one of the most popular WWE superstars ever -- officially turned heel.

WrestleMania 25 - Apr. 5, 2009 - The Undertaker vs. Shawn Michaels

The rivalry between The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels had been built over a decade before this match. While their in-ring chemistry was already proved, the match exceeded its already high expectations and is considered by many to be the greatest of all time.

In fact, the match headlined the following year's WrestleMania and was billed as The Streak (Undertaker's undefeated WrestleMania run) against Michaels' career, with Michaels putting it all on the line.

WrestleMania XXVIII - Apr. 1, 2012 - The Rock vs. John Cena

As the host of the previous year's WrestleMania, The Rock interfered in the main event between Cena and The Miz, costing Cena the victory. This set the stage for a yearlong rivalry leading into WrestleMania XXVIII, billed as "Once in a Lifetime" (though a rematch did occur the following year).

The two titans of the business clashed in a main event with no championships at stake -- just pride. The Rock emerged victorious in front of family and friends, backed by the partisan Miami crowd.

WrestleMania 35 - Apr. 7, 2019 - Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey

Lynch, Flair and Rousey made history by becoming the first-ever women's main event in WrestleMania history. It was a winner take all match with Flair entering as the SmackDown women's champion and Rousey as the Raw women's champion.

Lynch, who was at the peak of her rise in popularity earned her spot in the match by winning the Royal Rumble a couple of months earlier. Emerging victorious in this landmark bout, she walked away with both titles and the moniker "Becky Two Belts."

WrestleMania XL - Apr. 7, 2024 - Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns

When Rhodes returned to WWE at WrestleMania 38 after nearly six years away, it quickly became clear that capturing his first WWE Championship was the priority. It became known as his pursuit to "finish the story."

After losing to Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 39, he had another opportunity at WrestleMania's 40th anniversary. Fresh off his second consecutive Royal Rumble victory, Rhodes and Reigns battled in a Bloodline Rules match (no disqualification).

Rhodes won the match, captured the WWE Championship, and reached the pinnacle of his career.

WrestleMania 41 - Apr. 20, 2025 - John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes

Fresh off a long-awaited heel turn at the Elimination Chamber PLE a month prior as his farewell tour began, Cena entered the WrestleMania 41 main event as the nemesis of WWE champion Rhodes.

Not only that, but Cena was looking to make history. With a championship victory, Cena would become a 17-time world champion passing Ric Flair for most all-time.

Cena won and immortalized his legacy.
